Clovis Municipal Schools has tapped one of the district’s own to fill its deputy superintendent of instruction vacancy.

Personnel Services Director Cindy Martin will take over for Ladona Clayton, who was named superintendent of Clovis Christian School earlier this month. Martin is to start her new job Aug. 1.

“I just look forward to all the challenges I’ll face,” Martin said. “Clovis is a really phenomenal district, so I look forward to being part of the team that prepares our students for the future.”

Clovis Superintendent Rhonda Seidenwurm said Martin served as director of instruction for eight years before taking her current position “so she knows both sides of the house really well.”

Martin has worked in education for 21 years, including 18 years with Clovis schools. Besides her instruction and personnel administrative positions, she taught at Mesa Elementary School for eight years and was principal at Parkview Elementary School for two years.

“We’ve done a rather extensive search and came to a conclusion that the very best person for the job was already in the district,” Seidenwurm said. “And we’re pleased that even though Cindy did not seek the job, she decided to take it.”

With her experience, Martin said, she thought she could fill the need. She also said she has a background in and passion for instruction.

For goals, Martin said she intends to increase student achievement and support teachers and administrators to create the best school system. She also wants to continue efforts already in progress.

“That position has really made a difference for students, and I’d like to continue to do that,” Martin said.
